1. How do I upload my iTunes library?

i) Register for a Dusty Tunes account. If you've already done this skip to step
ii) Login.
iii) Select the button to browse for your file.
iv) Select the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file from your computer. This can usually be found in my music > itunes > iTunes Music Library.xml (If you are having trouble finding this then see FAQ 2).
Mac users should look here Music > iTunes > iTunes Music Library.xml
v) Wait for your file to upload. This shouldn't take long but give it a few minutes if you are on a slow connection or if you have a particularly large music library.

2. I can't find the iTunes library on my computer?

The file you need to upload is "iTunes Music Library.xml" by default it is stored in: my documents/my music/itunes. There may be other files in that folder so make sure you definitely select "iTunes Music Library.xml" If your file isn't in this location you should ensure iTunes is correctly installed and that you haven't moved the iTunes library to a new location using a 3rd party tool. If this is the case hopefully you know where you moved it to :-). You should also check that you have added your music collection to iTunes ie. your songs are available from the iTunes browser.
Mac users should look here Music > iTunes > iTunes Music Library.xml

3. Does this work with any other media player library collections apart from iTunes?

It is possible to upload lists created in other media players, although you do need to have iTunes installed. Here's how:
i. Create a playlist in your preferred player containing all the tracks you'd like to publish.
ii. Export/save this playlist as an .m3u file.
iii. Open iTunes and import the playlist (library > import playlist).
iv. Right click the playlist in iTunes and export it as a .xml to a memorable location.
This is the file you should upload to Dusty Tunes.

7. Do my friends need to be registered to view my music collection?

No, anyone can view your collection without registering or logging in. Registration is only required to create and upload a list.

8. Why is my list taking a long time to upload?

Don't worry, some lists take quite a few minutes to upload. The upload time is dependent on your internet connection and how large your music collection is. We recommend you go make a cup of tea and come back in 10 minutes :)

9. Do I have to upload my ENTIRE collection?

No, if you'd like to keep a few things to yourself you can upload a playlist as opposed to your entire collection. To do this you should create the playlist and then export it as an xml file to a memorable location. You will find the option to export playlists under the 'File' menu in iTunes. You should then proceed to upload a list as normal but choose the file you just exported versus your itunes library.xml.

10. How is the 'Genre' label in the list browser decided upon?

When a list is uploaded all of the genres within that list are counted and the one which appears the most often is assigned to that list. This gives a rough indicator of what type of music the user listens too.
